Best of New York Summer Shows

NEW YORK—Summertime! … and all over New York, galleries are mounting summer shows of one sort or another. For those of us who spend our working lives in and around the galleries, there’s a palpable sense of downtime this time of year, but for those millions of art lovers who are the city’s summer visitors, these are the shows that they will take away in their memories. And an initial survey suggests that they will be far from disappointed. A whole range of differently conceived but equally enterprising group exhibitions has already opened, and I very much enjoyed touring a few of them. For this week's Editors' Picks, I’ve selected some personal highlights.
