Visitors Falling For Tate’s Crack

LONDON—Doris Salcedo's latest installation in Tate Modern—a fissure that runs the length of Turbine Hall—is posing some unforeseen problems. During the unveiling Monday evening a young woman fell into the crack to just below her knees, The Guardian reports. Friends pulled her out of Shibboleth, which has come to be called "Doris's crack" and is at some points foot-wide. Just afterwards, an older woman who thought the crack was painted on the floor deliberately stepped on it and fell, injuring her wrist. Tate officials say they do not plan to install a barrier but will post notices and warn visitors verbally.
