NEW YORK—The new Greek and Roman galleries at the Metropolitan Museum of Art have brought 764,000 visitors, $567 million in revenue, and $56.7 million in taxes to the city in the past seven months, according to the museum.

The figures, reported by Bloomberg, were drawn from an audience survey conducted by the museum after it opened its $218 million expansion of the wing in April. According to the survey, the new galleries draw about 4,000 visitors a day, three quarters of which come from out of town. Of those, 41 percent said that the Met was a major factor in their decision to visit.

"The Metropolitan Museum proudly maintains its role as a premier tourist destination, generating major revenue for the city and state,'' said museum president Emily Rafferty in a statement.
