Descendants of two prominent czarist-era art collectors asserted a moral right to a portion of the proceeds from a major exhibition of Russian art previewed on Tuesday at the Royal Academy of Arts in London, the New York Times reports. The Russian Federal Agency of Culture and Cinematography declined to comment on the descendants—Andre-Marc Delocque-Fourcaud, grandson of Sergei Shchukin, and Pierre Konowaloff, great-grandson of Ivan Morosov—who want compensation for “From Russia: French and Russian Master Paintings 1870-1925 From Moscow and St. Petersburg,” the opening of which was in limbo for weeks until Britain guaranteed the paintings would return to Russia after the show closes on April 18.
