COPENHAGEN—Denmark's national library wants to house the cartoon images of the prophet Muhammad that sent shock waves and sparked protests throughout the Islamic world two years ago after they were published in Western newspapers, the Guardian reports. The library in Copenhagen has said it is trying to acquire the drawings for "preservation purposes" and is in negotiations with the 12 artists who drew them. The library also said the decision was not meant to be controversial, and it was not planning to display the works publicly. "We are not interested in an exhibition, we are interested in them being kept safe for future generations because they have created history in Denmark," Jytte Kjaergaard, a spokeswoman for the library, told the Guardian. "This is the obvious place to keep them because we have all the security measures in place."
