Press Release for Andy Warhol Photographs

Andy Warhol’s art was totally photo-based, whether he was using pictures from newspapers or ones he snapped himself in black and white or with a Polaroid camera. One hundred and sixty of both kinds of his images have been given to the Kresge Art Museum by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts' Photographic Legacy Program. These photographs are on view through the summer.

Since Warhol would often shoot a subject with both cameras, cropping one with the Polaroid as a "photograph" and taking the other as a B&W "picture," this donation offers a unique opportunity to see his process and his interactions with his sitters. As we gain perspective on the 20th century, Andy Warhol's seminal role becomes more and more evident.
