Biography

1964 Born in Berlin, Germany

Anton Henning is a painter whose diverse subjects and styles, from abstract to figurative, from pin-up girls to interiors, are plundered knowingly from art history and popular culture. Henning's project proposes a radical revision of the boundaries which we position around the work of art. While his paintings disrupt the traditional hierarchies of genre the display strategies he has developed demonstrate a critical and subversive wit. Henning's work is united by a delight in sensual pleasure and a passion for the tactile quality of paint. Recurring motifs and subjects, particularly the Hennling - a propeller-like design that morphs from tattoo to sculpture to abstract motif - reveal further unity within his oeuvre.

Henning lives and works in Manker, Germany. He has exhibited widely throughout Europe and has had recent solo shows at the Kunstmuseum Luzern (2003), the Museum fur Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt (2005), Kunstmuseum Krefeld (2005), and MARTa Herford (2005). Henning's work is included in many important museum and private collections across Europe.
