The Exhibition of SHOYO SHIMADA Traditional Japanese Ink Painting

March 3, 2008—March 8, 2008

The works of Shoyo Shimada embrace the contemporary art movement while adhering to the traditional style and materials of sumi ink painting.
Shimada is notable for her ability to capture the inherent beauty of an object, even as she translates a colorful blossom into a monochromatic painting.

In 1989, Shimada’s work was first exhibited by the Japan Nanshu Painting Incorporated Association Exhibition.  The next year Shimada received the top prize, an honor which she repeated for the next 18 consecutive years.
