About Gross McCleaf Gallery

Gross McCleaf Gallery represents painters of widely ranging styles and subjects who have several things in common:  most are realist painters, schooled locally, who live and paint in the area. A deeper, less tangible thread connects us however - the common ground of striving for authenticity, in conception, observation, execution  - a sort of aesthetic luddism in the face of the facile, fast, ephemeral images forced on us by our culture. This is a traditionalist effort –  though not conservative – which concentrates on the unique, lasting contribution of the individual, and results in works of art with subtlety, integrity, and character.
