As the forms in my own work become more complex I have began to focus on a balance between surface pattern and form. As the patterns overlap, the surface begins to navigate the geography of the shape it adorns.  Subtle color changes and variations in thickness create relationships between the interior and exterior of the vessel.

Letting the cutting wheel remove material in an un-premeditated way brings me closer to abstract painting and creating image based on feeling. The graphic lines imposed on the surface of these marks are acting as a restraint holding the composition together. Environment and landscape also have influenced this work as my daily surroundings are crowded with industry and architecture. The shapes and colors of this terrain find themselves manifested in the surfaces of my work.
