About Cavin Morris Gallery
Cavin-Morris Gallery has been exhibiting world artists for 22 years. In both trained and untrained artists we have sought to show a spiritual and aesthetic clarity of vision that has brought many of them to critical acclaim. Though we specialize in the works of vernacular self-taught artists we continually seek to contextualize the work in its contemporary matrix. We also continue to show works by great artists from the Caribbean, especially Haiti and Jamaica.
We represent the new generation of self-taught artists whose work remains authentic and visionary while representative of contemporary times. We also show European mediumistic and visionary work.
In 2001 we opened a new extension of the gallery in room 2 called Arts of the Ethnosphere in which art that reflects cultures from all over the world from Neolithic to Contemporary will be exhibited in all mediums, from stone to textiles. This begins with Chinese Neolithic and Pre-Columbian art through 19th and 20th Century African, Asian and Southeast Asian, Pacific, Latin-American and North American works as well.
The common thread that connects all this art is its uniqueness, its integrity and authenticity, and its reflection of cultural homeground. The Contemporary artists we represent extend the continuum established by the tribal and self-taught into a more formal but equally compelling arena.
