PAST EXHIBITIONMonica Bonvicini and Tom Burr
May 30, 2009—August 16, 2009 May 30th - August 16th 2009 Opening Friday, May 29, 2009, 7pm Afterwards there will be a party at the garden of Lenbachhaus. Monica Bonvicini (*1965 in Venice, lives in Berlin) and Tom Burr (*1963 in New Haven, Connecticut, lives in New York) are internationally regarded as among the most important representatives of contemporary art today. They share an interest in the functional purposes of social spaces and their psychological, social and gender-specific conventions. This mutual interest manifests itself in very different types of photographs, drawings, sculptures and installations. But common to both oeuvres is the question of the dynamics of power reflected in architecture, behavior and action. Enthusiasm for the almost libidinous quality of surfaces and materials is a further bond between Monica Bonvicini and Tom Burr's artistic output. The juxtaposition of their works brings out both the similarities and the contrasts between their aesthetic strategies. Curator: Matthias Mühling The exhibition is presented in cooperation with the Kunstmuseum Basel, Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Switzerland |
