Fernando DeOliveira

April 19, 2008—May 10, 2008

Fernando DeOliveira grew up in Brazil and moved to the United States in 2000. After years of work as an art dealer and painter, he now dedicates his full attention to painting.

Color, texture and volume are the real fabric of this art language which he combines with the old master techniques using contemporary materials.

"Like translucent membranes, the colors sustain the tension and the complexity of the texture", the artist states.

"The work of Fernando DeOliveira exudes a combination of vibrant color and supple texture which draws the viewer into the canvas.  Although abstract in style, the presence of nature is apparent as is the artist's relationship with his surroundings and communities.

The overall composition of the canvases is treated with equal importance through saturated reds, greens, oranges and yellows - light tones and textural rhythms circulate and dance from one painting to the next.  Little explosions of color burst throughout creating circular movement.

There is an emotional intensity and spontaneity interspersed within the colors and textures that give DeOliveira his own unique style of aesthetic quality.", Christine McCarthy, Executive Director, Provincetown Art Association and Museum
