About Tinlark Gallery
The grand opening of Tinlark, a new gallery in the 1936 landmark complex, Crossroads of the World, attracted a crowd of 350 collectors to Hollywood on its Saturday, January 13th opening night.
Tinlark is the first for-profit endeavor for Owner and Director, Cris McCall, who established the high-profile annual art sale fresh stART in 2000 that raises funds for Los Angeles arts programs for at-risk youth.
The general focus of the gallery is to emphasize paintings, works on paper and photography. In addition, the project room provides an opportunity for more experimental installations and multi-media experiences.
“While Los Angeles is filled with great art, the gallery scene can be intimidating,” said McCall. “Our aim at Tinlark is to showcase the most promising artists without making collectors feel they need an art history degree to walk in the door.”
McCall chose a Hollywood location for the gallery for numerous reasons. “I love that Hollywood is a real neighborhood with an extensive history and people from all walks of life. And as a resident of the Hollywood Hills, I know how underserved this area is for galleries, especially considering the concentration of collectors and creative people who live here.” Crossroads of the World, a full-block oasis off of Sunset Boulevard with stone pathways, citrus trees and fountains, provides the perfect setting for Tinlark. “We wanted to create the antithesis of the sterile steel and glass art gallery,” said McCall.
“Showcasing unknown talents to introduce to the Los Angeles art market is our passion,” said Jessica Wimbley, Associate Director of Tinlark. “By having the highest critical and curatorial standards, we’re exhibiting artists who are positioned to make great contributions to the contemporary art world.”
