Martha Strawn: Prehistoric Presence

Martha Strawn spent nine years photographing alligators in freshwater marshes, swamps, lakes ponds and rivers. Her photographic adventures for this documentary project covered the entire southern range of the American Alligator. Her work combines the photographic process with fine art concerns, science, history, folklore and land ethics. The combination of these elements have produced a remarkable and powerful exhibition and companion book. Strawn covers such topics as reproduction, hunting, loss of habitat, resource management and the commercial meat and skin industries.
