Ludwig Schwarz — Biography

1964 Born

For the past two decades Ludwig Schwarz’s somewhat unusual body of work has featured a variety of speculative situations meant to keep painting alive, if not always well. From experiments that include presenting paintings exclusively on a website, converting an art gallery into an outpost of a Rent-a-Center, selling a painting at a pawn shop, and outsourcing his production to China, Schwarz’s conceptual endeavors raise questions of value and authenticity while still suggesting new possibilities for the time-honored practice of painting.
Schwarz (b. 1964) lives in Dallas and has had several solo exhibitions around the Dallas area and in New York. His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions at museums and galleries in the United States and Europe. Schwarz was a finalist for the Arthouse Texas Prize in 2005, and is represented by Angstrom Gallery in Los Angeles.
