Kélyne — Biography

1955 Born

Kélyne was born in Haipong, Vietnam in 1955. Her childhood experiences in this alluringly lush land were to become a legacy that inspires much of her art - both thematically and stylistically. She breaks away from 'classical' art traditions and explores the modes of simplified form and expressive color. Kélyne’s paintings are mostly of women, dressed in ornamentally decorated clothes, and depicted in diverse emotional states. The images seem almost lost in a world of their own, and their Klimt-like stance exudes a subtle sensuality. The figures, though seemingly static, intertwine quietly and tenderly, as the artist emphasizes the expressiveness of their bodies.

Kélyne places paramount importance on the spiritual quality of her work, and she immerses in reflection before starting a painting, and hence, limiting the quantity of her pieces.  She is currently living in Paris and teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts.
