Specialties Shelley Seccombe(American, b. 1938)Since the early 1970s I’ve been photographing the Greenwich Village waterfront near my home. The dilapidated piers which captured my attention were gradually demolished and the scrap steel and charred wooden wreckage was removed following a series of fires. The vacant docks provided a rich environment for casual performances, athletic practice, sunbathing and hanging out, not surprisingly offering constant photo opportunities. In 2006 this work was exhibited under the title “The Lost Waterfront” at the South Street Seaport Museum. A book now in preparation should be in print late this year. |
