Madelaine Shellaby
(American)
I have always worked across disciplines, as a painter, a photographer,
and as an installation artist. And I have made several books and am
presently in the middle of making several more. In my most recent work,
I have been combining these disciplines digitally into single
compositions.
I am interested in creating a sense of something quite specific without
literally illustrating it; ambiguity is important to me. I like to
puzzle together images from many sources and mediums, and from insights
and fragments of information. Inspiration comes in drawing from nature, from reading Buddhist thought and contemporary physics, and from reflecting on the flow of experience.
The challenge is in making images about what I have yet to fully
understand.
