The remarkable thing about Elizabeth Catlett is the way she has been able to maintain and grow her creative energy and artistic sensibility over a period of many decades.

Catlett’s work celebrates African-American identity.  She uses the female form almost exclusively and endows it with dignity, authority and sensuality, and often with a maternal connotation.            ---       June Kelly
