Emma Camden

Southsea, England (British/New Zealand, b. 1966)
I use depth and contrast in my castings to create sculptures that play with light. I strive to make forms which are smooth on the outer surface and textured on the inside using the richly colored, translucent Gaffer glass. The hollow cavities are an important part of my work, which records both the physical and personal journey across the world.  The towers are slightly askew to momentarily disturb the viewer, as if the pieces were off balance.  This is in order to invest the work with an impression of power as well as a sense of the emotionally unsettling experience of resettling.
