There’s always been two prongs in my life. There’s one that wants to get right in your face and scream about culture and what we are, and what an art object is, or what a human being is.

And there’s another [prong] that suddenly wants to just jam it into shrieking reverse, pull into an empty, silent landscape, bereft of any human voice. There’s always a play between that. You’ve got all these logo pieces that are all shiny and are addressing culture. But there is also the work that pulls back and becomes mute. I guess I’m a lot like that myself-there’s two gears.
