Karen Gibbons(American)I like my art pared down to its essence, while simultaneously containing everything. My subject is human nature. Physicality, growth, and connections are my vocabulary. My method is to both combine and reduce. Shape, form and color are distilled until a singular image emerges. With this process I am creating a kind of iconography. The artwork becomes a container for expansive feelings and impressions. Sculpture is both heavy and very light; drawings are bold and delicate; paintings are rich and austere. Through these visceral dualities I hope to engage the viewer on a personal level. My intention is to spark many varied associations so each piece can be evocative, lyrical and maybe universal. |
