Amy Williams

My muse was born in 1998. She is my niece, the youngest daughter of my older brother. There was something remarkable, emotional, generous, honest, and curious in her from the beginning. Allison never shied away from my camera, she always stared me down--gazed at me lovingly or wondered what that "thing" was that I held in my hands. It is impossible to take a bad photograph of her, especially with those big doe eyes wanting to be captured.

My work has always been about the study of light, both interior and natural light. Photography naturally lends itself to an exploration of light, how the lens captures and filters light, whether the lens of my eye or the camera. I translate what I see with my eye into something exciting on paper. By using only available light, I evoke emotion, such as awe or trepidation. I want to provoke curiosity in the viewer to explore and engage in an image rather than pass it by.
