Specialties Ghassan GhayebMy vision is based on a comprehensive approach to pure aesthetics through imagination and intuition. By so doing, I hope to disclose new truths not previously revealed.I try to structure my works in layers of color so that the combinations — sometimes opposing and sometimes congruent — form a harmonious whole. I also introduce several materials and textures to enable fluid movement of the expression. These include textile, glass, minerals, and even reflecting chrome as elements that play roles of color, shape, and texture. This mixture of elements finds structure within geometrical figures such as squares, triangles, rhombi, and crosses resting within the accumulated chromatic layers. Together, these elements and layers unite to create metaphors for the layers of external, and particularly internal, realties of our daily lives… …War is one of the external influences that have shaken our reality. War is the annihilation of gender, thinking, values, and creative development. My own artworks were influenced not by the days of war itself but with the consequences once the war had ended, such as the fire and destruction that engulfed us. This aftermath has been an important influence on my art. Our nature, our space, and our environment were affected. While my works do not bear formal titles, one can think of them as maps of Baghdad, personal documents, and recordings of special places and events. -GHASSAN GHAYEB |
