Stephen Shanabrook — Biography

1965 Born

American artist Stephen Shanabrook lives between NYC, Russia and Holland.

Shanabrook works in a disparity, a space of unexpected associations, altered perception and exquisite entropy. In all his undertakings, there is the process of evisceration and a search within process for a different aspect of beauty. Shanabrook ‘s art presents a still life of our contemporary culture, commenting on both consumption and the materialist discourses of communism and socialism.  Using untraditional artistic materials such as chocolate, animal carcasses, plastic dolls and other found materials Shanabrook traverses the taboo terrains of desire and violence to explore their paradoxical common ground.
