Matteo Bergamasco — Biography

1982 Born in Milan, Italy

Matteo Bergamasco was born in Milan in 1982, where he still lives and works.
Since child he has always loved all that regards images, design, painting; he used to create characters and short illustrated novels.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan.
Trained in the traditional school of drawing and painting, he now works in a more contemporary style, frequently on layered backgrounds and in vibrant colors.
From a research on ‘memory’ based on the rework of old family pictures, he came to represent great interiors and laboratories lacking in human presence that have more of a meditative or spiritual character.
Along with these he also focused on colorful works, full of abstract shapes and pointilistic vibrations that he has called "other worlds" as visions on different energetic truths.
What interests Bergamasco is the potentially infinite game of the image structure and the exploration on the varied potentialities of painting media.

He won several national prizes stating his name as one of the most talented emerging artist in the contemporary Italian art scene:
Premio Lissone, Civica Galleria D'Arte Contemporanea – first prize 2002
Premio Paolo Parati, Vittuone, RinascitArte 2003
Premio Cairo, Milano, Museo della Permanente – first prize 2003

He participated in important group shows:

- IV Biennale Giovani Postumia, Gazoldo degli Ippoliti (Mn), Museum of Modern Art
- Quadriennale anteprima, Turin, Palazzo della Promotrice
- Solo Show, Milan, MiArt 2004, Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea
- Italian Factory. La nuova scena artistica italiana, Venice, Istituto di Santa Maria della Pietà (in "Extra 50", 50.sima Esposizione Internazionale d'Arte); Strasbourg, the Parliament building (for the semester of the Italian presidency of the European Union); Turin, Palazzo della Promotrice delle Belle Arti.

His last solo show was in 2006 - “The Etherial Portal” at Bonelli arte contemporanea, Mantua.
