Born in 1964 in China, Liu Fei’s earliest works were inspired by the trend where males shaved their heads. Now the artist focuses on the more dramatic subjects and the emergence of new female beauty – bald-headed women. Liu Fei’s paintings range from beautiful, fresh-faced, cheerful bald young women playfully toting their pistols, to a woman chatting on a cell phone, or to others coquettishly posing for the camera. The women’s dark red lips and exaggerated full-tooth smiles, contrast with the simple black and white background. Liu said, “What I want to express is the common feeling of people, that is that reality is funny, exciting, nauseating and boring.”
