Born in Guangdong, China in 1960, Ma Tse Lin has lived and worked in Paris since 1985. Initially trained as a sculptor, his well-known painted images of Buddahs project plasticity and power. His paintings explore numerous interpretations of the Oriental godhead, utilizing various shapes, rich colors, and occasionally incorporating Chinese calligraphy and the treatment of gold leaf. Ma Tse Lin was raised in China during the horrific and oppressive Cultural Revolution, and uses the serene Buddah image to express a new peaceful, and more spiritual world.
