Hsiao-Mei Lin: New Paintings

May 10, 2008—May 22, 2008

Adam Gallery is delighted to present an exhibition of new paintings by Hsiao-Mei Lin. Hsiao-Mei paints in oil on canvas or board, yet experiments with this traditional medium to produce extraordinary effects. Her paintings seem almost three dimensional, where free-floating intangible shapes emerge from an atmospheric background. These pictures have an otherworldly quality, yet as titles such as Trace of White Mist (illustrated above) and Eye of the Storm suggest, they are also organic, as if representing the mysteries of our natural world.

Originally from Taiwan, Hsiao-Mei  has been based in the UK since 1991 when she came to start her BA in Fine Art at the University of Brighton. She went on to become an outstanding MA graduate from the Royal Academy Schools in 1997, winning numerous awards, including the Windsor & Newton Young Artist Award, the Crabtree & Evelyn Scholarship and the Cyril Sweett Award for most promising MA Painter from the RA, the Slade and the Royal College of Art.

Her work can now be found in many public and private collections, including Chevron UK, Lucas Pensions Investment Ltd, Art Review Magazine and Fenton Art Trust. She has exhibited widely in the UK, including shows in London, Bath, Henley, Oxford and Glasgow, as well as in Geneva and Belgium.
