Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of the First Emperor
May 18, 2008—October 12, 2008
SANTA ANA, CA—The Bowers Museum presents Terra Cotta Warriors:
Guardians of China’s First Emperor, the largest loan of terra cotta
figures and significant artifacts to ever travel to the U.S. from the
tomb complex of China’s First Emperor, Qin Shi Huang (259–210 B.C.).
Considered one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th
century, the First Emperor’s enormous mausoleum features thousands of
terra cotta warriors that were intended to protect him throughout
eternity. Since their discovery, the terra cotta army has often been
termed the Eighth Wonder of the Ancient World. The exhibition provides
a deeper knowledge of this historical site and showcases 100 sets of
objects, which includes approximately 20 life-size figures representing
all aspects of the emperor’s army. Terra Cotta Warriors: Guardians of
China’s First Emperor opens at the Bowers Museum on May 18, 2008 and
remains on view through October 12, 2008.
