Working in stark and provocative color as well as richly-toned black and white, Catherine Opie’s classically composed images seduce the viewer into reconsidering notions of communal, sexual, and cultural identity. Her work adopts such diverse styles as studio portraiture, landscape and urban street photography, making visible the invisible and underscoring the poignant yet unsettling veracity of her subjects.
