CURRENT EXHIBITIONRecycling & Resourcefulness: Quilts of the 1930s
October 21, 2008—March 15, 2009 The exhibition highlights twelve quilts made during the depressions era by thrifty women who reused clothing, flour and feed sacks, and other recycled fabrics to create “new” bedcovers in a variety of vibrant patterns. The recycled quilts are on loan from the International Quilt Study Center & Museum, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The theme will be further explored through highlights drawn from the American Folk Art Museum’s collection that repurpose available materials into new art forms. Among the works on view are the Wonderbread Rug, the Condom Quilt, Tramp Art made from cigar boxes, Woolsey bottle cap figures, and quilts made from men’s suiting fabrics and patriotic silk ribbons. |
