Bank of America presents:Jack Barrett: A Soul's Journey

October 3, 2008—November 1, 2008

This exhibition celebrates the life and work of Jack Barrett, who passed away in February 2008. Jack attended Carnegie Institute and in 1954 graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. In 1989, he retired after 20 years as illustrator for the St. Petersburg Times. A long time member of the Arts Center, Jack was a fixture at our Saturday Morning Drawing Open Studio, and his vibrant paintings and drawings were on frequent display in our gallery and gallery shop over the years.

His style ranged as widely as his subjects, from realism to free expressionism. "What art is about," he has stated, "is to record a likeness or a gesture in a dramatic spontaneous moment." His dynamic and playful sense of color and form appeals to a wide variety of ages and sensibilities. Don't miss this opportunity to view works of art that Jack created over the past 30 years, including rarely-seen sketchbooks and drawings.

We are honored to dedicate our entire gallery space to this extraordinary man and his unforgettable creative spirit.
