Andrei Kushnir & Michele Martin Taylor: East Village Afternoon

September 13, 2008—November 2, 2008

The East Village is resisting gentrification, but most of the gaunt druggies peddling their meager wares on ragged blankets on 2nd Avenue are long gone.  Thompson Square Park, once hosting riots and general chaos, now is a tranquil place where dog walkers, families bound for the playground and genteel homeless intermingle.  Trendy shops with fascinating mixes of new and vintage are shoulder to shoulder on the cross streets, punctuated by coffeehouses and pizza joints.
