Jonathan Shahn: Imaginary Portraits

Working in clay, wood and plaster, Jonathon Shahn has created hundreds of invented heads that would seem to be portraits. Shahn’s work is effortless; he often draws and paints on his carved roughly hewn wooden works. In all of his sculptures referencing the head of the human body, the work is left in varying stages of completion. He states that leaving a work unfinished as if the artist will return in a minute or so his intended effect.
