UPCOMING EXHIBITION
Cildo Meireles
November 15, 2009—February 7, 2010
The Brazilian artist Cildo Meireles (b. 1948) has made some of the most philosophically brilliant, politically telling, and aesthetically seductive works in recent art. He is seen as one of the key instigators of conceptual art, now that conceptualism has been acknowledged to have had points of origin all over the globe. That label, however, is inadequate to describe the unique combination of abstract thought and direct physical experience that characterizes his diverse body of work. This exhibition, drawing from all stages of his career, will be the first extensive presentation of Meireles’s work on the West Coast.
