Trajan Gallery is proud to present an exhibition of recent paintings by
California artist, Tracey Sylvester-Harris which will be exhibited from July 15 – 31, 2008. An artist reception will be held on Saturday, July 19, from 4:00pm – 7:00pm with the artist in attendance.
Harris intimately captures the blissful moments of leisure in her newest series of ocean bound voyages. The lure of escape is set within a backdrop of ocean liners in these brilliant, painterly works. Her subjects are depicted enjoying solitary moments- strolling on ship docks, sunbathing, and gazing upon breath taking views. Drawing on characters from vintage photos set in the 40’s and 50’s she brings forth the timeless theme of leisure and travel.
Fascinated by style, Harris comments that she is drawn to vintage imagery from the 1940's and 50's; times in which style had a very distinctive feel. Sifting through endless vintage photos, Harris has found many models for her paintings. While Mid-Century fashion and hair are integral to her works, she also examines contemporary style; Her paintings are infused with spontaneous design work, giving them an edgy and fresh sensibility.
