PAST EXHIBITIONMarie-Annick Brown: Girlhood Part 3: The Arts
September 30, 2008—October 25, 2008 September 30th to October 25th, 2008, Brown is showing the latest installment in the "Girlhood" series: drawings of her memories of ingesting visual imagery and notions of esthetics, as a growing child in France. She is also showing a series done while awaiting the 2006 congressional elections, which many expected to be fraudulent. She found it peaceful to spend those disquieting days copying other people's paintings, mainly from art magazines, one a day, in watercolor on paper. She would write a few words about how it felt to spend that time with it. The next day would be another painter, and another experience. It was addictive and she continued for a short while even after the election results. Brown has shown at Artists Space with RepoHistory, with CoLab in various venues, and at DIA Art Foundation. |
