Stan, the Renaissance Man: A man with rhythm, rhyme and a great method to his madness.
Painter, sculptor, pianist and plastic surgeon; this is Stan Taub.
Many would suppose that he is a mere dilettante and that one could not
possibly be a master of all of these arts. But Mr. Taub has proven his
ability to coordinate his eyes, ears, mind, and hands with an
industrious, surgically precise technique that possesses a unique
signature of superlative afflatus.
In his well-known sculpture entitled “Compassion” we see a surgeon
holding a child with a cleft lip, much like a Madonna would hold a
child. We must marvel not only at the flawless architecture and
indisputable knowledge of flesh and bone, but also at the flesh that
radiates with life and love.
These are qualities that are alive in all of his sculptures, which is
truly remarkable. He captures the serendipitous sleep of angels in the
sculptures of his son; the freedom of spirit in the joyous face of the
skater, Patricia Dodd, British National Ladies Skating Champion 1969-71.
Mr. Taub also works in stained glass. He deftly cuts the glass into
what seem infinite slices of light and adroitly arranges them into
either cosmic abstractions or bucolic impressionist landscapes. They
remind me of his intricate improvisations at the piano, again done with
an eye, ear, and hand coordination that seems instantaneous and without
hesitation. Here is a mind that is capable of abstract calculations
that translate into works of art that are not only well crafted but
filled with revelry.
The fine art of David Kastner is a deep reflective ocean of captive
timeless mystery. It is work that goes beyond discussions of line and
form, beyond technique, to a place that is even beyond geometry; it is
art that ventures into the subatomic space. Purchasing a piece of
Kastners work means owning a portal to a world that would otherwise be
inaccessible.
Mr. Kastner is a traveler and not a tourist. He has lived among
indigenous peoples in remote places and has unsheathed their wonders.
His sculptures are of the Goddess and not imitations – they are
authentic talismans with precise primal alchemy that is almost
terrifying. A brief visit with his works results in haunting visions
and provocative dreams.
David Kastner defines contemporary art and masterfully soars above
cliches and repetitive styles, and, like the old masters, he whispers
the ineffable while escorting the viewer on a tour of the inner
crucible of the unknown.
Ico Gallery will exhibit Mr. Taub’s sculptures and works in stained
glass. Mr. Taub will also be a guest pianist performing his
improvisations. Contact the Gallery for the performance calendar. |
