PAST EXHIBITIONAngels: Beings of Light
December 2, 2006—December 16, 2006 Cynthia Stibolt explores the supernatural realm in a two week exhibit entitled ‘Angels: Beings of Light’. Angels appear in every major world religion dating back to ancient Egyptian and Babylonian civilization. They often appear as messengers, guardians, even warriors sent for the benefit of mankind. They represent what we have in common; the grace of the Divine. When people think of angels they rarely think of dogma or rules often associated with an institution. Instead one thinks of Hagar being rescued by an angel of God in the desert, Mohammed receiving the Koran through Gabriel and Mary’s visitation by the same angel bringing news of the virgin birth. Cynthia Stibolt’s work expresses this spirit of Unity and Grace. She has spent a great deal of time researching the appearance of angels in the world’s spiritual traditions and the long line of artists who have represented them. Yet her work resonates with lightness and spontaneity, reflecting our fast paced modern world. The autonomous movement of line and form invite the viewer into the mysterious and playful realm of light. |
