PAST EXHIBITIONN. S. Harsha: Come Give Us A Speech
September 12, 2008—November 1, 2008 N.S. Harsha has elaborated his grid-like compositions with a series of recurring motifs. The paintings are often panoramic and seemingly systematic, inviting interpretations of co-existence between nature and the metropolis - a reflection of southern India’s rich, fertile tradition of urban gardens, cities lush with imported trees, and a diverse relationship to plantations. Mysore’s historical and natural wealth often deposits itself back into N.S. Harsha’s work - a plethora of plants, birds, and animals occupy the same space as people and furniture. His latest installation, Leftovers, epitomizes the artist’s relational practice and is composed of the plastic representations of various dishes, condiments that were manufactured in the fake food tradition in Japan. This frozen, half-eaten, plastic reality, set on plastic banana leaves, invokes the realistic aftermath of a communal meal and forms the centre piece of the exhibition. |
