While on the topic of NOW, we thought you might enjoy these current mentions…

One of the TOP 10’s by Chinese artist, writer, curator, and educator Qiu Zhijie in the current issue of ARTFORUM magazine (May 08):

7 Bill Viola’s Buried Secrets – This exhibition in the America pavilion of the 1995 Venice Biennale brought the power of the senses to bear directly on the body, creating an exquisite aesthetic experience for viewers.  The shock of seeing Bill Viola’s work led me to experiment in earnest with video, and even to become something of a missionary for video art in China.  At the same time, Viola’s method of actively constructing a spiritual genealogy out of cultural experience encouraged me to more actively seek my own personal place within Chinese culture.  – Qiu Zhijie

Arizona State University Art Museum is proud to have organized the exhibition Bill Viola: Buried Secrets for the America pavilion of the 1995 Venice Biennale.

Appearing on Rhizome earlier this month:

For all that's been said about how behind-the-times academia can be, university galleries are very often the most risk-taking portholes to contemporary art. This fact is exemplified by Arizona State University's Art Museum… has demonstrated a keen eye and clear commitment to emerging artists and emergent media.  – Marisa Olson http://rhizome.org/editorial/fp/blog.php/699

The Arizona State University Art Museum continues to be committed to presenting the best in contemporary art through the work of international recognized and emerging artists. It is always nice to have quality confirmation that projects originated by the ASU Art Museum in the desert of Arizona truly has global impact.

Stay tuned, there is definitely more on the way next season including exhibitions with artists Nadia Hironaka, Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba, Kurt Weiser, a group exhibition of new works from the collection of Mikki and Stanley Weithorn, the continuation of the Social Studies initiative, outstanding programs and many more surprises in the works…

We look forward to having you visit!
