Press Release

Boca Raton, FL -- The Boca Raton Museum of Art is pleased to announce the opening of I Shot Warhol, Wesselmann, Lichtenstein, Rosenquist and Indiana: Photographs by Bob Adelman and William John Kennedy. The exhibition will run through September 7, 2008.

In the 1960s, Andy Warhol (1928-1987), Tom Wesselmann (1931- ), Roy Lichtenstein (1923-1997), James Rosenquist (1933- ) and Robert Indiana (1928- ) gained international attention as key leaders of the Pop art movement. This exhibition presents more than 60 images of these American artists, photographed at the height of their careers by two photographers, Bob Adelman and William John Kennedy, whose lives crossed paths with many of the greatest artists of their day.

Adelman and Kennedy had unusual access to these artists, capturing rare images of the artists and their work. Many photographs in the exhibition, taken in the 1960’s, ‘70’s and ‘80’s have never been exhibited before. These surprisingly intimate photographs, in black and white and in color, are important and evocative documentary images, whose appeal is timeless.

This exhibition has been co-organized with Rosenbaum Contemporary art gallery in Boca Raton. Rosenbaum Contemporary will exhibit the photography of Bob Adelman and William John Kennedy concurrently with the Museum’s exhibition.

The Boca Raton Museum of Art is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10am – 5pm; Wednesday 10am – 9pm; and Saturday and Sunday 12pm – 5pm.  Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens (65 and older), $4 per person for group tours and $4 for students.
