Press Release

Boca Raton, FL -- The Boca Raton Museum of Art is pleased to announce the opening of the 57th Annual All Florida Juried Competition and Exhibition on July 2, 2008.   The All Florida is the state’s oldest statewide annual juried competition. It showcases the most prominent and emerging artists of Florida, granting visitors a unique look at the state of art today through the eyes of Florida’s artists. The exhibition runs through September 7, 2008.

This year’s co-jurors are Jan van der Marck, formerly of the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Dartmouth Museum, the Center for Fine Arts in Miami (now MAM), the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, and the Detroit Institute of Arts; and Jef Bourgeau, Director of The Museum of New Art, Detroit, Michigan. They reviewed works from nearly 382 artists, selecting 60 works from 53 artists to represent the best of Florida in this year’s exhibition.

For the second year in a row, the Museum has employed the use of CaFÉ,TM a web-based site offering electronic online applications for art exhibitions. The program has been a well received addition to the application process, allowing a more affordable submission method and giving a greater number of artists the opportunity to enter the contest.

“The museum is committed to showing the best modern and contemporary work, and part of that commitment is reflected in the Museum’s advocacy for the Florida artist,” said Wendy Blazier, Senior Curator.

“This year’s All Florida raises expectations and enhances the Museum’s mission for the future,” said Meg Kaplan, Exhibition Curator. “We are proud to continue this remarkable democratic tradition of providing an open invitation to all the artists of Florida.”

The Boca Raton Museum of Art is open Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 10am – 5pm; Wednesday 10am – 9pm; and Saturday and Sunday 12pm – 5pm.  Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens (65 and older), $4 per person for group tours and $4 for students.
