PAST EXHIBITION

Guo Jin

April 26, 2008—May 25, 2008

SHiNE Art Space is pleased to announce Guo Jin – Solo Exhibition.
Guo Jin's works show images of children dressed in a variety of playful costumes, occasionally appearing as if on stage. By their very nature, the acts that the children are involved in what should be innocent fun, but they are given sinister undertones by a lack of movement which robs the figures of their vitality. It appears as if these children have become fossilised, with their surface being worn down over time and becoming mottled and discoloured.

The children in his paintings, rusted and spotted with age are ancient like terracotta soldiers or excavated relics, covered by the physical damages of age, the build-up of time, history, even of change itself, the accumulation of life’s sorrows; in the end this becomes
the artist’s symbol of having passed through recollections of the vicissitudes of this life, a reflection and contemplation on the garden of our childish nature. Guo Jin’s art expresses “a reflection and contemplation of man’s naiveté”.

Guo Jin was born in 1964 in Chengdu, China. He graduated in 1990 from Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts. He currently lives and works in both Chonqing and Beijing, China.
This exhibition will take place from the 26th April 2008 through to 25th May 2008.
