PAST EXHIBITIONPaula Rubino: Nostalgia
October 31, 2007—December 1, 2007 Paula Rubino is recognized for her sparse compositions executed in oil. Her work, though often described as realistic, does not depict reality as much as attempts to evoke a feeling. The composition is crucial, with carefully considered space, color and symbolic elements. The figurative works first appear as portraits, but on closer inspection the anonymous sitters become vehicles for the artist's message. The still lifes contain recognizable objects, such as apples and plums, but the more they are viewed, the more abstract they become, reduced to richly-colored spheres against neutral grounds. |
