Alma Tischler and Tilman: Sculpture and Paintings
September 8, 2007—October 27, 2007
Press Release
Alma Tischler and Tilman were both master students from Guenther Fruhtrunk at the MA Academy in Munich. He is known for his radiating colorful geometrically structured paintings. While rejecting the figure reference, the structure of parallel lines in different thicknesses becomes a pattern where color becomes form as well as figure. Even though both Tischler and Tilman went their own way to develop their artistic identity, Fruhtrunk’s influence can be seen in their work.
Alma Tischler works in several media – painting, sculpture, and video – showing her interest in the play between the two and three-dimensional. Her paintings display geometric structures and patterns, which reference on one level the beautiful, like the pattern or weave of a garment, but on another the industrial, like an infrastructure of pipes or magnified wires.
Tilman creates wall objects that focus on layered forms and muted color. Although seemingly simple at first, when moving closer one realizes the different layers hidden beneath the surface. When viewing the objects from the side, one again sees the interplay of linear lines, but the separation of foreground and background is not just visual but actual. |
