Juliana Ortiz: Post

September 5, 2008—September 20, 2008

In her artwork, Juliana Ortiz combines versatile approaches to transform ordinary, banal, everyday things through a variety of media. At times her work rumbles – rhythms interfere with each other: some tumble while others are about to break. The unruly replaces order and control. Her images of reality do not rely on the 'real' world much. In fact, Ortiz creates her own immanent world on her own terms. Portraits influenced by constructivism or skis adorned with braided yarn refer to the intensity of identification with Ortiz' quest to embrace a magic, symbiotic interplay between artist and object to open intermediary spaces.

The exhibition POST focuses on painting and collages. With her second exhibition, POSTPOST Juliana Ortiz will widen her visual scope in October 2008; video installations, montages, and demontages develop her work as a reaction against POST.
