Ulfert Wilke: A Lifelong Love of Paper

April 26, 2008—June 21, 2008

Ulfert Wilke was a mid-century Modernist who works were influenced by his friendships with Lionel Feininger, Mark Tobey, George Rickey, Robert Motherwell and Raymond Parker.  Although best known for his large, calligraphic acrylic paintings, Wilke also worked on paper his entire life.  These small works have an intimacy and immediacy that allow us to trace the artist’s influences from the 1950s until his death in 1987.
